Prof. Assaf Shwartz is a socio-ecologist who studies the interactions between people and nature in human-shaped environments and landscapes. His research focuses on understanding how cities and agricultural landscapes can be planned and planned and managed to support both human well-being and biodiversity conservation. His work is grounded in a holistic and interdisciplinary approach that integrates knowledge, theories, and methods from the natural sciences, social sciences, planning, and environmental design, recognizing that environmental and sustainability challenges require the integration of diverse fields of expertise. His research addresses a wide range of topics, including biodiverse and biophilic cities, sustainable agriculture, ecological corridors, nature-based solutions and the psychology of human–nature relationships. His goal is to advance the scientific understanding of social–ecological systems and develop knowledge and tools that support planning, management, and decision-making, with the aim of creating environments in which both people and nature can thrive over the long term.
