Using Ornaments for Geometry and Multi-Cultural Education: Development, Implementation and Evaluation

Using Ornaments for Geometry and Multi-Cultural Education: Development, Implementation and Evaluation

Our study involves both secondary school students and prospective teachers. We developed the course "Issues in Ethnomathematics: Teaching Geometry in Socio-Cultural Context" as part of the departmental curriculum, and run it since 2007. The course presents visual artifacts as complex geometric structures and provides practice in construction of ornaments using symmetries and transformations.

An Innovative Approach to Learning Mathematics in the Context of Cultural Pluralism

In this project we are developing a course entitled "Teaching Geometry in a Cultural Context" which will be delivered in the spring semester of 2008 at the Technion. In addition, we are preparing instructional materials that college student-mentors will use for teaching geometry in a cultural context in high school geometry and design classes.
