"Rules of the game" of higher education in Israel – where to? (20.11.2005)

The conference was held at Tel Aviv University in November 2005 to mark the publication of Dr Ami Volansky's book, Academe in a Changing Environment – Higher Education Policy in Israel, 1952 – 2004.

The discussion day was entitled: "The Future of the 'Rules of the Game' of Israel's Higher Education System" and included the following five sessions:

·        Research and teaching – are they on an upward or downward slope?

·        Council of Higher Education and Planning and Budgeting Committee in changing environment – a look at expectations and reality.

·        What are the limits of political responsibility and involvement in higher education?

·        Future challenges for higher education.

The conference was attended by heads of institutions for higher education, researchers and public figures. Among the speakers were members of the national academy of the sciences, researchers from the universities and colleges, and members of parliament.
